File Under "Unrequited"

(Originally posted to Facebook: November 22nd, 2009)

Saw her today and almost walked by her
But got caught in her gaze like the web of a spider
Met her eyes and her smile but I hardly recognized her
Figured she was just another girl with a nice set of fly curves
I swerved, double take, stopped in mid-step then watched her
Took me by surprise, so I wonder if it shocked her
Didn't expect to feel this emotion today
Can't say whether it's hope, bliss, or dismay
She walked up and my brain locked up as we embraced
Damn, it's been a long time since a woman made my heart race
Was back in the game, now you're throwing my pace
Floodgates open, and again I'm hoping to taste
In the back of my head, knowing I'll never go to that place
But that's okay, cause you know I'm so in love with the chase
Searching her face for the lines that time's shaped
Trying to find if this is divine grace, or blessed fate
I hesitate, cause I estimate another star-crossed reunion
Hear love in the background, but I can't seem to tune-in...
Words fill the gap between the endless divide
Though it gets hard to chat when there's a tempest inside
I step to the side and turn to get her behind me
But she follows in tow and I'm leading us blindly
Mind on autopilot wondering how the fuck did she find me?
She seems different than I remember, more human, more tired
Loved her to death since she left
I've burned with more passion, more fire
Rested my head in a bed filled with shades of desire
Then torched bridges for kindling to fuel funeral pyres
As I walk with the dead, she floats like a ghost
She talks, but her words all disperse into smoke
Tell her goodbye, but we keep getting too close
So I say goodbye a second time, and cast away my false hopes
She says she misses me, I tell her I miss her too - which is true - and kiss her cheek
"Call me" she says, I tell her "yes," but turn my head and wish her "peace..."
It was nice to see you, though I leave you, sweet misery, 'til again we meet
